Monday instructions/lessons

Monday March 30th:

Please check your school email and our Google Classroom

Thurs/Fri

Just a reminder to continue with what is posted below and to check out the NaNoWrimo page I posted

I hope you're all doing well!

Wednesday March 24th:

Good morning!  What a beautiful sunny day.

For those of you looking for a little more structure to your day, I'll be posting daily challenges for 7 days for all my students here

Tuesday March 23rd:

No photo description available.

Good morning!  Thank-you to those of you that sent me your journals.  Just a reminder, I'm looking for more than just your schedule.  I'd like you to write at least as much as you do when we complete writing minutes at the start of class.

Monday March 22nd:

I hope you're all healthy and were able to spend some quality time with your families over the March Break.  My family decided it was better to stay put rather than head out to Quebec and we've had a nice week of daily jogs, workouts, reading, board games, cooking delicious meals and catching up on Netflix.  These are unusual times for sure and I'm reminded daily of what I'm thankful for.

For now, what I'd like you to do each day is the following:

-A daily journal entry about your day.  Be sure to include your schedule if you have one.  For example our's looked like this today:

Breakfast

Chores/laundry

Facetime with a friend

Jogging

Training our dog Ginger

Lunch

Planting seeds for our Garden

Reading a good book

Taking a walk

Dinner

Lighting a fire/Marshmallows

Netflix

Bed

Next, I'd like you to read an enjoyment novel at your reading level and take process notes each day (what pg did you start on, what pg did you end and do a re-tell for each day)

I'll be checking all this so make sure you do it!!!

Hang in there, we'll get through this!
Be sure to get great sleep, eat healthy and get some fresh air and exercise each day if you're feeling well.

Miss you!

Also, as strange as it may or may not feel not being able to go to school, try not to stress too much about it!  Think about something you've always wanted to do or try/learn about and do it!  For example:

-sewing
-guitar
-gardening
-space
-an invention?

Go for it!  You actually have some time!

We had ISU presentations

You lose 5% per day that your entire ISU package has not been viewed and checked off by Ms. Burke

You lose marks if you're absent when your supposed to be learning from other's ISU presentations....

Easy solution = be in class with your work done.  You were given more than enough in class time for your ISU.

By now you should have read all of or almost all of, "The Most Dangerous Game".

You need to scroll down to pg 35 and look at the plot diagram example.

Next, you need to draw your own plot diagram and complete one for, "The Most Dangerous Game"

-Great presentations today!

Monday January 13th:

*If you are absent be sure to call/email as discussed in class.  Your ISU is worth 15% of your mark for this class.  Please take it as seriously as you would an exam.

Bear 71

Is a digital short story that is close to my heart.  Bear 71 is a Mother Grizzly Bear trying to survive in the recently highly developed Bow Valley.  The story takes a close look at human encroachment upon wildlife habitat.  It also critiques the cost of relying on technology even in the natural world.

I'm not sure about you but I feel instantly connected to Momma Bear 71 when I view the digital short story and I'm heartbroken when after all she goes through she is struck down by a train.

After living and working in the Bow Valley for a period of 10 years, I had many wildlife encounters and my reactions and what I learned from these experiences may surprise you.

    -About our classroom

-All about you!

---------------------------------------

Welcome!!!

Our classroom should be a place where EVERYONE feels accepted and diversity is celebrated. Everyone deserves to feel comfortable and a part of the group.

Be Present: In Body and Mind.

Be Respectful: Of yourself, your peers and your teachers and our building and the planet.

-No put downs or foul language

-Conversations need to be classroom appropriate when you're in class.

-No one person shall take up all the air in the room (allow others to speak and to be heard).

-Please clean up after yourselves

-I encourage you to bring a reusable water bottle to class, no single use plastics please.

-It's ok to bring healthy snacks but no sugary beverages or junk food please

-Be inclusive, be kind and smile because it's worth it!

Be Responsible: When you attend school you see results. Please come prepared and hand your work in on time.

Listen carefully during lessons and instructions. Please do not talk or listen to music during lessons, class discussions or instructions. You are welcome to listen to music if you ask to during individual class work, as long as it is not a distraction to yourself or your classmates.

Keep ALL process/rough work. For many tasks, you will be asked to submit your process work for evaluation.
