Welcome to the Innovation Club! We meet in the Think Tank on Wednesdays right after school!
Instructions for Remind:
November 20th:
-Recap of last week's meeting about the Wildstand... Discuss research ideas and have chromebooks there to send Darryl our suggestions.
Revisit: "Imagine Collingwood event"
-Should we have an, "Imagine CCI event" modeled after the event at Gibson and Co? We could call it: "Imagine CCI was the best high school in Canada" or...What are your ideas?
-Revisit "Maker Space". Did anyone have any dinner table/car ride conversations about selling maker projects to help fund-raise for our club?
Speaking of Fundraising... Is this something we'd be interested in doing in the New Year?
I watched this video with my students and it reminded me of some incredible coffee we bought on Manitoulin Island this summer. If you like to encourage voting with your dollar, watch this short video and then see my links below about Grounds for Change and Birch Bark Coffee Company.
-Maker challenge and next week's meeting might be a maker space:
Did you know?
29 October 2019 is Global Maker Day. This day was created by educators to give their students the opportunity to create and collaborate on projects with people all around the world. It is meant to help inspire students to become innovators by solving problems and pushing their limits.
I'd never heard of this until yesterday! In addition to this...
We've been invited to sell things at the Winter Market that takes place every Saturday. Is anyone interested in doing this? Should we have a maker space session next Wednesday? How would this look?
Some ideas:
A Maker Challenge;
Our world has become increasingly interconnected and interdependent. New areas of study develop to advance human knowledge and respond to the challenges of our changing world with insight and innovation.
You are being challenged to explore something new, make it an ongoing project, track your progress and present your work in some way to our group. The sky is the limit in terms of creativity.
Your challenge is also to make something that we can sell at the winter market. A portion of your proceeds could go toward fundraising for our group and the rest can go to you!
Here are some ideas:
Revitalizing a Lost Art is a great way to develop an interest in an area you have perhaps never thought of before, and a great way to learn new skills. Here is your chance to make it “new” again… Think creatively, the sky is the limit!
Possible ideas:
-whittling and wood burning,
-candle making, soap making...
-herbal remedies -quilting
- knitting, beading...
Also think about how whatever you choose, ties into one of our club themes: environmental concerns and responsibility, social responsibility, entrepreneurship and healthy living.
Alternatively, you can take-up/master a new art. You may want to explore starting a blog on a topic related to one of our course themes. Maybe you’d like to:
- self-publish a poetry anthology -work with an artist to develop and sell something
-Write a business plan for a new technology product, produce the project
-Take a waste product and turn it into a value added product
We could also do...
But if so...We need you to organize this, put something together and get it going for next Wednesday!
Maker stations (a great idea but takes quite a bit of organization on behalf of the students and teachers):
-Beeswax wraps
-Reinvent your t-shirt
-Wire headbands?
-Knitting a scarf?
-Wood burning?
Scott from Conscious Water would like to come and talk to us next week about his business and he needs us to a process similar to the one we did at the Wildstand.
